A whole-house energy audit includes the following:

  • Evaluation of the attic insulation - type, condition, R-value
  • Combustible gases leak detection
  • Combustion appliances operational fitness analysis - furnace, hot water heater
  • Worst-Case-Depressurization test (combustion appliance safety)
  • Evaluation of the windows - type, condition and effectiveness
  • Assessment of the rim joist
  • A blower-door test - to determine the air leakiness of the house and to identify the leaks
  • Ambient Carbon Monoxide test
  • Carbon Monoxide test of the kitchen stove (if applicable)
  • Energy bill evaluation - please prepare a year's worth of energy consumption data:  kilowatt hours, therms and cost for each month
  •  Shading and sun-strike evaluation (to determine suitability for solar energy solutions)
  • (sometimes) investigation of specific electrical appliances to determine the cause(s) of unexplained runaway electricity bills
  • Executive Summary and Findings / Recommendations reports
  • Assistance in soliciting bids from specifically qualified MHIC contractors who specialize in energy retrofits
  • A follow-up audit to document the implementation of the recommendations
